1. All Sales Final on Consumable Food Products
At Relish & Root Company, we are committed to providing the highest quality extra virgin olive oil. Because olive oil is a consumable, perishable food item, all sales are final.
To ensure public health and safety, and in strict compliance with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Food Code and the New Jersey Department of Health regulations, we cannot accept returns, exchanges, or offer refunds for food products once they have left our controlled facility. We cannot verify the storage conditions or integrity of the tamper-evident seals once a product has been delivered; therefore, returned food items cannot be restocked or resold under the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA).
2. Damaged, Compromised, or Incorrect Orders
While we do not accept traditional returns, we stand behind our packaging and fulfillment processes. If your order is compromised during transit, we will issue a replacement or a store credit if the issue meets the following criteria:

Transit Damage: The bottles arrive broken, leaking, or with physically compromised packaging.

Spoilage or Safety: The product shows visible signs of compromise (e.g., broken tamper-evident seal upon unboxing).

Fulfillment Error: You received the wrong olive oil varietal, size, or quantity.
Note: Relish & Root Company reserves the right to determine, in its sole discretion, whether a product is defective or damaged as a result of transit or manufacturing error.
3. Mandatory Claim Procedure
If your order arrives damaged or incorrect, you must follow this exact procedure to be eligible for a replacement or refund. Failure to provide documentation will result in a denial of your claim.

Do Not Discard the Product: Retain the damaged item, the shipping box, and all original packing materials.

Document the Damage: Take clear, high-quality photographs of the shipping box (showing the shipping label), the damaged product, the broken seal or leakage, and the batch/lot number printed on the bottle.

Notify Us Within 48 Hours: Email our support team at contact@relishroot.com within 48 hours of the carrier's logged delivery time. Include your order number and the required photographs.
4. Non-Refundable Circumstances (Agricultural Disclaimers)
Olive oil is a natural, agricultural product. We will not issue refunds, credits, or replacements for any of the following reasons:

Taste Preference: Dislike of a specific flavor profile (e.g., finding the oil too peppery, bitter, or mild).

Natural Variations: Normal agricultural variations including slight cloudiness, natural sediment at the bottom of the bottle, or color differences between harvests.

Improper Storage: Degradation, rancidity, or spoilage resulting from the customer storing the oil improperly after delivery (e.g., exposure to direct sunlight, high heat, or leaving the bottle unsealed).
5. Shipping Delays, Refusals, and Stolen Packages

Undeliverable Packages: Customers are responsible for providing an accurate, secure shipping address at checkout. We are not liable for packages delivered to an incorrect address provided by the customer.

Stolen Packages: Once the carrier marks the package as "Delivered," the risk of loss passes to the customer. Relish & Root Company is not responsible for packages stolen from porches or mailboxes.

Refused Deliveries: If a customer refuses delivery of a valid order, no refund will be issued. The perishable nature of the product prevents it from being safely routed back to our inventory.
6. Non-Perishable Merchandise
If your order includes non-perishable merchandise (e.g., apparel, sealed pouring spouts, or empty cruets), these items may be returned within 14 days of delivery. To be eligible for a return, the non-perishable item must be unused, in its original packaging, and in resalable condition. The customer is responsible for all return shipping costs. Upon receipt and inspection, a refund will be issued to the original payment method within 5-7 business days, minus the original shipping costs.
7. Legal Compliance
This policy is governed by the consumer protection laws of the State of New Jersey, including the New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act (N.J.S.A. 56:8-1 et seq.) and applicable federal FDA guidelines regarding the safe transport and handling of human food. By completing a purchase on our Shopify store, you agree to these terms.
